Online Visibility Tip for the New Year: Blog, Baby, Blog!
by Nancy Marmolejo

I heart my blog. Seriously, if I could marry it I would. My blog is my anchor, my rock, my provider. It's sexy, dazzling, and fun at parties.

Can you say that about your blog? If not, don't fret. Maybe "marry my blog" is not at the top of your list of life goals, but for your online visibility goals your blog must be way, way up there.

Consider your blog to be your family estate, your online homeland. It's yours to prosper with and belongs to no one but you.

Facebook is cool . . . but you don't own it.

Twitter rocks . . . but it's not your property.

All those arguments over intellectual property and who owns that picture you posted from Granny's 90th birthday don't need to come into the discussion when you're talking blogs.

You should build your online visibility strategy from the blog up. Point your web traffic there, send your social media followers to your blog, get the whole world on the path to your blog.

Here are my tips for a prosperous, dazzling love affair with your blog.

1. It's OK to Blog Around

Your blog is your cornerstone, but you need to also be seen outside of your URL. Post your blog on Facebook (see Tip #2), guest blog on others' blogs, and invite people to write posts on your blog. Subscribe to other blogs, leave comments and spark up relationships so you can all send traffic to one another.

No need to be a Blog Monogamist, in this case you can play the field all you want.

2. Use Facebook to Reach Beyond

Your blog will generate more online visibility for you when you smartly connect it to Facebook by importing it into Facebook notes. You just need to know what your RSS feed is then follow this quick tutorial. This gives your blog posts a second life and invites your followers to share with their followers.

3. Tweet Away

You can have your blog posts automatically posted on Twitter, too. Way easy. Several services that used to be free now charge a nominal fee, so you decide whether you want to invest in your visibility or not. In no special order, check out Social Oomph, HootSuite, and Twitterfeed.

Love your blog and your blog will love you back. Let it be seen in as many places as you can, then enjoy a level of online visibility where ideal clients find you and want to work with you!
