Help a friend. When you're feeling low, get a double hit of social approval and self-empowerment: help someone else. Mixing with friends and family (at least, the members of your family you actually like) raises feelings of well-being through a sense of belonging and safety. Helping someone reinforces your idea of yourself as capable and contributing. If you remember to do a lot of smiling and laughing while helping and socializing, you can't help but feel better.
