Holiday Fun and Greetings
by C.S. Clarke, Ph.D.

Although I do send holiday cards -- Christmas cards for those who celebrate it and other seasonal greetings for those who don't -- I like to follow up with e-greetings for special friends and family. I also like to use e-greetings for those who send cards to me who weren't on my original list. The holidays are an opportunity to laugh and enjoy yourself and share that enjoyment with others. Too often, in the mad rush of shopping and other preparations, we lose sight of that and get stressed and even angry. Slow down and try these admittedly zany suggestions to add the fun back in to the season.

E-greetings are fast and efficient, sure, but even better, they can be wildly fun. Especially the animated ones. There are a number of sites that allow you to not merely to send animated greetings, but also to personalize those greetings with your own photos. Here are the most popular ones:

ElfYourself --( http://www.elfyourself.com/) The original from Office Max. Available only at Christmas. You simply upload a pic of yourself and, if you wish, up to four others to be superimposed onto dancing, singing elves. If you really like the results, you can buy mugs and others merchandise with a still of your video. And, of course, you distribute your video to friends and family that you have reason to believe will not blackmail you with your folly for the rest of your life. Or you can be cautious and upload pics of the family pet or pics of celebs and politicians who have earned your scorn.

FunPunch -- (http://www.funpunch.com/Christmas-Ecards-All/) Not just elves, not just Santa, but a whole range of dancing, singing characters that you can use as is or personalize with your photos. Also, not just for Christmas, but characters, songs and dances for a wide variety of occasions or no occasion whatsoever.

PQ DVD Talking Photo -- (http://www.pqdvd.com/flashediter/edit.php) Very charming talking and singing characters, but no dancing. The only animation is the face.

And for yourself, try some Christmas-theme desktop wallpaper from Kate.net (http://www.kate.net/holidays/christmas/wallpaper.html).
