Article Recommendation
My favorite newspaper, The Washington Post, has an excellent article in its archives titled “Recession-Proof Your Career.” The tips it includes are right on the money. You’ve probably gleaned similar tips from the various articles I’ve published on my website, but it’s nice to have them listed and summarized in one place. Read the article…

Recommendation: Author/Website
I’ve just added another of Nan Russell’s articles to Superperformance.com as the guest article of the day, It’s about how to manage and complete tasks which seem overwhelming and is called Winning At Working: One Bite At A Time.
I frequently publish articles by Nan Russell because I find her advice to employees on surviving and thriving in the workplace to be some of the best on the ‘net. In addition to providing wise counsel, she tells stories or provides examples that show what she means. That makes it easy for the reader to imagine the relevance to his (her) work life.
Nan is well qualified to write in her topic: her background includes over twenty years in management. Her last employment gig was with QVC, as a Vice President. Her two degrees are a B.A. from Stanford and an M.A. from the University of Michigan.
She’s quite prolific: She has two books: (1) Hitting Your Stride: Your Work, Your Way, and (2) Nibble Your Way to Success: 56 Winning Tips for Taking Charge of Your Career. She also publishes five websites: www.nanrussell.com; www.winningatworking.com; www.dailyworkvitamin.com; www.intheschemeofthings.com; and www.mountainworkscommunications.com. For Winning At Working, she publishes a biweekly column, which you can receive by signing up for her newsletter.
And, as if all that writing weren’t enough, she hosts “Work Matters with Nan Russell” weekly on webtalkradio.net.
Don’t wait for one of her articles to show up on my site. Go visit her, starting with www.winningatworking.com .

Situs Interruptus
I don’t post every day, but over the last week I’ve had a few problems with my web site that have not only kept me from blogging, but also prevented me from doing my daily uploading of new articles. I had only been with my now former web host for less than two months when last Thursday I found that for the umpteenth time I could not ftp to them. Which means, of course, that I couldn’t upload files. Before, they simply apologized and fixed the problem, this time they denied the problem and ignored my request to be moved to an actually working server. I responded by getting a new web host. We’ll see how this works out. But, while I was searching for a new web host, I read quite a few review of various hosts and was dismayed to learn how few have good reviews from their users. And even those that have high rankings (such as being listed in various “top 10 hosts” recommendation sites) are highly ranked because of their features, functions and price rather than their sterling customer support service. I feel an article about customer (dis)service coming on.

Do you know Seesmic?
Are you familiar with Seesmic.com? Seesmic is a video micro-blogging tool, similar to the text micro-blogging tool Twitter, except that the videos are not real-time. Real-time or not, real conversations are taking place and very effective social networking is going on. As I keep emphasizing, networking is a powerful productivity tool — this particular one is rather fun. Here’s their introduction.

Death By Cubicle
If you have any doubts about the deadly effects of adverse workplace environments and stress, stop by HowStuffWorks.com and read their series on “Death By Cubicle.” I may sometimes seem to talk excessively about the importance of stress management to improving human performance and productivity, but you may understand better why I do so if you take a look at those articles.

Productivity Software — At A Discount
Hey, you want to make your money produce more, too. Right? You probably already Woot! (You do, don’t you?) Just as Woot! offers a great deal every day on consumer goods, there are software sites that arrange for fabulous price breaks on both shareware and commercial software. Most of the software is for productivity (including art and music utilities), although there are games available — usually on the weekends — and financial organization and management.
Each 24 hours, a new piece of software is offered at discounts that generally range between 30% and 70%. In the Mac versions, sometimes you can get several items bundled for less than the price of any one of the items in the bundle.
In the Mac world, the sites you want to visit are:
MacZot.com and MacUpdatePromo .
In the PC world, you should try out BitsDuJour for a new daily deal. Like MacZot and MacUpdatePromo, BitsDuJour arranges for discounts on software. And they also arrange discounts on web services and e-books.
(By the way, if for some strange reason you don’t already know about Woot.com, please pay them a visit and enjoy their discounts and their hilarious ad copy.)

More articles you should see…
Since I last posted, I’ve published several new articles on the main website.
Here are some of my own:
Tame Your “To Do” List — The idea of a “to do” list is that you are able to anticipate, plan and schedule what you must do in a way that helps make sure it gets done, and preferably, gets done efficiently. But too many of us add way too many items, including “should-do’s” and wish list items. Read about how to avoid getting into the trap of “too much to do.”
Book Recommendations: The Top 10 Books for Stress Management — article containing recommendations for and reviews of the best 10 books to help you improve your performance by managing your stress, anger and anxiety.
Powerful Job Hunting, Career-Building Tool You’re Probably Not Using — article about the value of building your own self-presentation website to maximize your job hunt efforts.
Here are some fine guest articles:
Winning At Working: Someone Else – Nan Russell reminds us that people who are winning at working are the “someones else” that others just stand around waiting for in unpleasant situations. She shows how important it is to step up, take charge and solve problems during times when there is a lack of leadership.
A Circle of Friends: Nichepreneurs and the Power of Relationships — Susan Friedmann discusses both the value of and the process for developing a network of powerful relationships that have quality, dignity, honesty and mutual respect.
Run Your Own Race – At Your Own Pace — Eileen McDargh shares a story that demonstrates the importance of setting your own pace, making your own judgments, abiding by your own values, sticking by your own goals and appreciating your own abilities.
